Kara Kara

Kara Kara is a shanty little town that was all started with a dump… Literally.             People needed a way to make money so they would either take taxis or walk to the city dump, Kara Kara, to collect trash. The things that they collected would be taken to the local market and sold in order to provide food for their families. It wasn´t long before people started to realize that it would be cheaper just to live at the dump and suddenly shacks began springing up...

Don´t put me in a box!

One of the first blogs I posted was talking about identity and my quest to find myself in Christ.  When I posted that blog I thought that I had it all figured out and that Christ was done working in me in that specific part of my life….nope. This whole trip, it feels like every week God is pulling back layers and revealing new things to me about my identity in Christ and the crap I´ve built on myself- trying to identify myself with what the world sees. But I´m realizing, I´m not of this world….my mind shouldn´t be on earthly things, they should be on...

Don´t Live for God

You read that header correctly:  Don´t Live for God.   Kudos to Emily, my sister in Christ, for revealing this to me.  My whole mentality about my relationship with God has been changed thanks to her willingness to hash out what this means.   So don´t live for God.  Live from God. Live from God.  Be rooted in God.  Don´t depend on your own ability to pursue God.  Don´t depend on your own ability to glorify God. We´re called to be vessels of God.  And by definition of our identity of children of God, we´re called to let God be the...

I Thought I Got Away

If you personally know me, you probably already know that I spent 5 years working at camps. I started working at an Outdoor School (AKA Science Camp) back in September of 2003 as a camp counselor. As a camp counselor, I spent 24 hours per day / 5 days a week just pouring into the lives of the children that were entrusted to me. I later became a Naturalist at the Outdoor School, teaching 5th and 6th graders about Environmental Education along with other parts of Science. I have also worked for the Christian camp that is on the same property. I worked my first...

A Lesson on Love

As I woke up this past Saturday morning I thought Öh Crap!¨ I don´t have anything to write about! As a participant with AIM we are required to write a blog every week and I went into panic mode because I could not think of anything to write about! I felt a sudden pressure to think of something clever, meaningful and profound to write, it is not like God has not been teaching me anything but nothing that I felt like He wanted me to write about.    So I prayed Saturday morning ¨Lord give me something that you want me to write about, a lesson I need to...

acampamento

Familia y Amigos! This past week has flown by once again! My team celebrated 4th of July with Roman candles, sparklers, and some Bolivian version hamburgers. It was great and such a fun time bonding with the girls.    We had an overnight camp for the children that go to Casa de Amested. Their mothers who were not in jail were also here visiting. These kids had so much excitement for the week. Our rooms we stay at here are in a house across the street from the actual camp. The first morning the kids spent here started way before we had scheduled. I was woken up by shouts of...
