¨You are the salt of the earth…¨ matthew 5:13
I´ve decided recently to reread Matthew and I´ve been praying that God reveals the gospel to me in a new way and that I would see Jesus´ life in a new light. So yesterday I took a day off of ministry to be in devotion with God and I came across Matthew 5:13- ÿou are the salt of the earth¨. I have read that verse a million times but yesterday when I was sitting infront of the magnificant lake and the beautiful view it had a different meaning. I just kept on repeating- you are the salt of the earth. you are the salt of the earth. Rachel Ross you are the salt of the earth. God you are the salt of the earth. And i had a new revealtion about this verse…
In high school I used to think, if I really love God and my whole life is devoted to Him, then I will just get clustered into the group of being a ¨Christian. I thought I would loose my individuality and being unique. But pop culture and music, and celebrities, and movies, societal norms, and romance isn´t the salt of the world. Its not what makes this world have flavor or purpose or importance. ¨
Its God.
He is the salt,
He is the flavor,
He is the purpose.
Right after the section about salt in Matthew 5, Jesus talked about being light of the world. He said, ¨…let your light shine before men…¨
God has ordained us, His children to be the salt and the light of the world. Wow, what an amazing blessing and an amazing responsibility.
Lately God has really put it on my heart to not be concerned with things of this world but to only have my heart set on the things of Heaven. That I would be passionate about the things that God is passionate about and that my heart would break for what breaks God´s heart.
Our purpose here is to not just breathe or survive… its to be the salt and light of the world.
