On Tuesday we had the opportunity to go to ¨the Cristo, ¨ which for those of you who do not know is the largest statue of Jesus in the world. It is 33.5 meters high (one meter for every year of his life.) This statue is situated on a high hill looking out over the city and has become our landmark for where we are in the city when we are out, as it is able to be seen from almost anywhere within Cochabamba. This statue has been an encouragement to me when I am feeling tired or grumpy to look up and see the beautiful white Jesus with his arms outstretched over this place.
While we were on the hill with the Cristo I could not help but sing a song that we have sung several times throughout the trip. The song ¨Your the God of this City,¨ was being sung in me and over the city. Here are the lyrics to the first part!
You’re the God of this city
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You Are
You’re the light in this darkness
You’re the hope to the hopeless
You’re the peace to the restless
You are
For there is no one like our God
There is no one like You God
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here
As I was singing this song and looking out over this city that I love so much and these people who have taken a piece of my heart I realized that God was singing this song to me. He was singing it as a promise to me for this city, this nation and the world. He was singing this song to me and my life as well. He was speaking to me that ¨greater things are yet to come¨ in my life and that He is going to move over my life and use me. As I was taking in the moment and the view of the city and the sun setting I just could not help but praise the Lord, the King of this and every city and every nation! I cannot wait to see the powerful ways that God is going to move in the next two weeks here in Bolivia and then we I get home.
While I was praising, contemplating, being excited and sad and all the other things I was feeling/thinking while up on the hill with the Cristo I remembered the scripture in Matthew 5:13-16 which talks about Salt and Light. Although Cochabamba is not a city ¨on¨ a hill it is a city surrounded by many hills. My prayer for this place is that it would be like the verse says ¨a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.¨ I pray this place would be a light and that would not be able to be hidden from the world and that my life would be salt, enriching this place and any other place the Lord may lead me!
