Kara Kara

Kara Kara is a shanty little town that was all started with a dump… Literally.             People needed a way to make money so they would either take taxis or walk to the city dump, Kara Kara, to collect trash. The things that they collected would be taken to the local market and sold in order to provide food for their families. It wasn´t long before people started to realize that it would be cheaper just to live at the dump and suddenly shacks began springing up...

“Especially Chickens.”

I post this blog out of my great love for Calie Flynn and in honor of the humor of translation.   We were at a youth servie at the little church in Kara, Kara on Saturday night, and Calie, out of her great love for me, was translating the sermon.  We were sitting to the side of the santuary (I use the term loosely), and the service had been fairly long.  The pastor was preaching on “appropriate dating” and such.  It was at the height of the sermon.  The pastor had his serious preaching voice on.  Everyone was intensly listening. ...

Bolivia Has A Navy?

Bolivia Has A Navy? As we were on our way to the internet today Margaret was filling our minds with random facts and trivia information and one of them was… ¨Did you know Bolivia has a Navy?¨ This fact may not seem that dramatic but let me remind you that Bolivia is a completely land-locked country… and so their Navy is located in the only major body of water Bolivia has Lake Titicaca. God Put Bolivia on my … Leg?

Although we have only been in Bolivia for three weeks I have already fallen head over heals for the people, culture, and language. So often we use the phrase, “God put Bolivia on my heart,” but God used a more literal example on me. Last Saturday we spent our morning at a boy’s orphanage in a rural area. We shared a bible story, sang songs, a short skit and after we challenged them to a soccer match. Long story short, we got our butts handed to us, but one particular boy did leave a serious impression on me. LITERALLY! He was kicking at the ball and at the time it seemed...

Hippie Hair

As I have written about recently, in Bolivia, I look like an alien.  A mixture between the height and the long blonde hair make me stick out like a sore thumb wherever we go, but in the orphanages and schools that we visit, the children love it.  You can hear the cries from a mile, “Bonita! Bonita! Bonita!”  (which means pretty in Spanish) and they run up start petting my head.  Zulma, a thirteen year old girl from La Casa, asked if she could have one of my hairs this last week, and I gladly gave her one.  The next day when we returned,...

His Love

Hola mis Amigos y Familia! I am excited to share with you how God has been working this past week! Our team has now been here in Bolivia for over 3 weeks and our ministry has been growing and relationships have also been growing. As you know we are here on the camp at Palabra de Vida (word of life for those of you who don’t know much espanol), and we are still working with the kids here at the missionary school. I LOVE them all and it has been suh a blessing being able to serve in this way by helping out at the school. During our lunch and free time we have been spending our...
